Eight of the 23 properties released today were snapped up in record time at the former hospital, which has been completely restored and transformed into stylish apartments by Premier Burrell, a joint venture between The Premier Property Group and The Burrell Company. A further seven were released due to public demand on the day and snapped up within two hours.
Premier Burrell, known for their experience in regenerating listed buildings have retained many of the original features within the 130 year old building, whilst giving the one, two and three bedroom properties a contemporary twist. Most of the properties have spectacular views south over the Glasgow skyline and are appealing to both families and professionals.
Andrew Burrell, Managing Director of The Burrell Company, said: "Following the interest noted in the last six months we were expecting a huge crowd today, however nothing could have prepared us for this. The impressive B-listed building was always going to appeal to potential home owners looking for a desirable property with original features and character, set in an idyllic location."
The building was once used as an overflow hospital unit for patients requiring urgent medical attention during World War Two before becoming a convalescent home for Glasgow Royal Infirmary and latterly a private nursing home. However, even more recently the property has been used as a location to film an episode of Taggart.
Richard Lyall, of the Premier Property Group said: "Properties like this do not become available every day, which is why we are receiving such an overwhelming demand."
The third phase will be released tomorrow. Prices are expected to start in the region of £270,000.
