The Tron development by BUREDI, a joint project between joint venture company The Burrell Company and The EDI Group, along with Castle Rock Housing Association, was named Best Mixed-Use Development, whilst Upper Strand, a joint venture between The Burrell Company and The Places for People Group Ltd, received the award for Best Housing Project.
Upper Strand and The Tron made up two of only three Scottish entries shortlisted for the awards and beat off competition from 80 finalists in total. The developments were also the only Scottish entries in their respective categories.
The National HomeBuilder Design Awards recognise the best examples of housing design, layout and landscaping in the UK, focussing on housing that demonstrates imagination, innovation and attention to detail.

The Tron development saw the Tron area of Edinburgh's Old Town transformed through a £15m regeneration programme. Completed in four phases, the development, which was designed in part by award-winning Architect, Richard Murphy, features 60 modern apartments, office accommodation, a restaurant and purpose-built nursery. The National Homebuilders Design Award is the fifth awarded for the development.
Upper Strand development will see more than 500 quality homes built in the Granton area of Edinburgh over the next five years. Designed by architects, Reiach and Hall and Elder and Cannon, the development will provide a combination of housing for sale and affordable rent. The development forms part of the larger Waterfront Edinburgh Ltd regeneration programme which will see massive investment in the area over the next 15 years.
Whilst also working on various other projects in Scotland, including The Madelvic, also part of the Waterfront Edinburgh project which will see the transformation of Britain‚s oldest car factory into modern apartments and live/work units; Coalhill 2, a development in Leith which is set to emulate the success of award-winning Coalhill; The City and Elmhill, which will breath new life into two former hospitals in Aberdeen; and the Murray's Mill development in Manchester, which will see a 200 year old textile mill complex transformed into residential and commercial units in conjunction with In Partnership.
