To Scotland's national bard Robert Burns on this, the 25th January.

Any excuse for a celebration in wintry months...

The wind blew as 'twad blawn its last;
The rattling showers rose on the blast;
The speedy gleams the darkness swallow'd;
Loud, deep, and lang the thunder bellow'd:
That night, a child might understand,
The deil had business on his hand.


We've dotted some appropriate, and perhaps at times not quite so, quotes from his work throughout our letter. Apologies to the serious scholar.

If you're attending a Burn's Supper this year remember it carries his official approval:

A last request permit me here,-
When yearly ye assemble a',
One round, I ask it with a tear,

Upper Strand's popularity is expected to reach new heights as the spectacular Tower is released for sale in February.

Working with the University of Aberdeen we have recently launched a proposal to create a mix of commercial units, including a much needed café/restaurant in the heart of the Old Aberdeen.

Adjacent to tower of King's Chapel and at the centre of University life the intention is to bring some buzz, no matter how you feel, to one of the city's most historic cores.

But just as he began to tell,
The auld kirk-hammer strak the bell
Some wee short hour ayont the twal',
Which rais'd us baith:
I took the way that pleas'd mysel',

Well, more gothic than goth...

More than half of the properties in Schaw House in Bearsden are now sold, with the remainder of the building expected to complete this Spring.

Various events will be taking place over the next few months including the launch of a new show home and, because it's Bearsden, a wine tasting by Joe Fattorini, with more details to be posted on our web site.

Work on this £15million mixed-use development in Glasgow's city centre, is set to get underway as Vienna Apartments in the next few weeks.

The Vienna Apartments will be located partially in existing Victorian buildings extending between Mitchell and Union Street and featuring continental-style apartments and commercial units, opposite the Lighthouse, Scotland's Centre of Architecture, Design and the City, and partially in a contemporary block.

This £80 million canal-side development in Edinburgh's Fountainbridge is set to go on-site in early 2007.

It is a mixed-use scheme, centred around a brand new city street: a tree-lined, pedestrian boulevard named Freer Street opening up the Union Canal to Fountainbridge.

Expect the release of the first units for sale in 2008.

The proposals will deliver environmental and landscaping benefits for the former industrial site. These include new pedestrian and cycle routes and a public courtyard garden.

The Freer Street blueprint also features a new footbridge over the Union Canal, establishing a major new pedestrian link between residential areas to the south and the cityís booming financial Exchange District.

As market days are wearing late,
And folk begin to tak the gate,

The Company is hoping to receive planning permission, at the third attempt, to transform a former metal works in Leith's Assembly Street into affordable but fashionable apartments that are ideal for those struggling to get a foothold on Edinburgh's expensive property ladder.

Working with young Edinburgh architecture practice, Sutherland Hussey, who have won various awards for its distinctive projects, The Burrell Company is set to convert the existing Listed warehouses into 11 apartments complemented by 18 new flats, should the politicians so decide.

Blast From The Past: Ingram Street, Glasgow

This mid 1980's project was a joint venture involving various public bodies including the City Council. The Merchant City was not regarded as a residential area at the time this project was being built and sold.

In fact, Ingram Square became the flagship in the regeneration of the Merchant City, providing virtually a complete urban block of housing, both new and refurbished, as well as commercial accommodation. The design was undertaken by Elder & Cannon Architects, their first large commission, commencing a long working relationship with Burrell. Of some considerable significance in the history of regenerating cities, and architecturally a stylish part of Glasgow's drive to be taken seriously in design, this project received numerous awards and is still recognised as a turning point in the regeneration of our cities.

How Wisdom and Folly meet, mix, and unite,
How Virtue and Vice blend their black and their white,
How Genius, th' illustrious father of fiction,
Confounds rule and law, reconciles contradiction,
I sing. If these mortals, the critics, should bustle,
I care not, not I-let the critics go whistle.
